Thackray Williams acted on a lease extension involving four separate landlords, requiring extensive negotiation and multiple applications to court and tribunal.
We managed the whole process for our client, including serving the claim notice, engaging in protracted negotiations with the freeholder, a Right to Manage (RTM) Company, a Management Company and four intermediate Landlords, and issuing a First-tier Tribunal application when terms could not be agreed within the six-month statutory deadline. Once terms were successfully agreed, the landlords failed to complete, necessitating a County Court application.
Despite completion taking place, we also challenged the landlords’ proposed legal costs under section 60, successfully obtaining a Tribunal determination that reduced the overall recoverable costs by around 50%.
Our client was able to secure a lease extension on favourable terms, successfully avoiding excessive legal costs from the landlords.
