The latest annual update to the guidelines which give ranges for injury to feelings awards in discrimination cases, also known as Vento Bands, have been published. This sum is paid on top of any financial loss which is calculated separately.
In respect of claims presented on or after 6 April 2024, the Vento bands are:
- the lower band for less serious cases, of £1,200 to £11,700 (increased from £1,100 - £11,200);
- a middle band for cases that do not merit an award in the upper band, of £11,700 - £35,200 (increased from £11,200 - £33,700);
- an upper band for the most serious cases of £35,200 - £58,700 (increased from £33,700 - £56,200), with the most exceptional cases capable of exceeding £58,700.
This is not a significant increase, however, has been designed to ensure that the award matches inflation according to the RPI (Retail Prices Index).
