Heatwave to heartbreak: Thackray Williams at the Crystal Palace FC Partners' Cup
News | 30 July 2026
On Wednesday 29 July, Thackray Williams had the privilege to take part in Crystal Palace Football Club's Partners' Cup football tournament.
Competing against 12 other teams and under a baking sun, we survived a tough group stage without a win, enduring plenty of good-natured laughs from the crowd. Driven to bounce back, we rallied in the Shield knockouts, fighting from behind to win our semi-final 2–1.
The final came down to an exhausting sudden-death penalty shootout, where we narrowly lost in the seventh round. Despite the heart breaking finish, the day was about far more than the result. It was a testament to the team's resilience, competitive spirit, and ability to come together when it mattered most.
Thank you to Crystal Palace FC for inviting us - we'll be back!
