We’re delighted to announce that respected employment lawyer Jennifer Nicol has joined Thackray Williams as a Partner and Head of our City of London office.

Enhancing our commercial offering

Jennifer Nicol, who has more than 20 years’ experience as a London employment lawyer, will also lead the team at Thackray Williams’ City of London office.

“As a specialist in all aspects of UK employment law, with particular experience in employment litigation and discrimination, Jennifer will significantly augment our current offering in these areas, enabling us to enhance the proactive support we provide to our existing clients,” says Managing Partner Emma Thomson, who heads the Commercial group.

Jennifer was previously a Partner with specialist workplace City law firm, Doyle Clayton, where she led their Canary Wharf Team. In that role, she worked closely with clients in the financial, insurance, media and technology sectors, as well as family-owned businesses and a diverse range of Senior Executives.

Partnering with clients and growing our London presence

“I am excited to be joining Thackray Williams, a firm highly regarded for its excellent workplace culture as well as its legal expertise, and I look forward to working with the existing team of excellent employment lawyers,” she comments. “I am particularly excited about contributing to the growth of the firm’s London offering and helping to raise Thackray Williams’ profile in the capital.  In addition to client work, I will be focussed on growth and helping the team in London to flourish.”

Jennifer has undertaken specialist training in workplace inclusion and has a particular interest in workplace wellbeing and mental health.  “My in-depth training in workplace inclusion and discrimination means I always strive to understand what HR clients and leaders need, above and beyond good commercial advice,” she explains. “I will always have in mind the risks client organisations are trying to manage, as well as ensuring my advice aligns with their organisation’s culture and values.

“I also represent a lot of individual clients, in situations that may be complex and challenging. My aim is to always keep the person and their objectives at the heart of the advice I provide.”

Strategic bolstering of Corporate and Commercial group

“We’re delighted that Jennifer has chosen to join Thackray Williams. Her appointment is part of our strategic plans to bolster our Commercial group to enable us to deal with our growing client base, from global brands to ambitious SMEs,” explains Emma Thompson.

“We are now looking for a new Head of Commercial Property to help service the increasingly complex estates of our commercial clients, be they businesses, professional landlords or property investors,” adds Managing Partner Vikki Herbert, who heads the Real Estate sector.

Drawn to Thackray Williams by the people

“My decision to join Thackray Williams was based largely on the people,” explains Jennifer. “It is a highly successful firm which is led by very impressive people. I am especially looking forward to supporting the Managing Partners, who have a clear vision for the future growth of the firm. It is clear that the people in the firm are talented and efficient while also extremely pleasant to deal with.”

Proactive support for commercial clients

Jennifer’s additional specialism in workplace wellbeing and mental health has been honed over many years as a lawyer dealing with discrimination cases and advising clients on cases which had mental health at their centre.

“I wanted to understand more about how organisations can have successful inclusion initiatives, so I undertook specialist training in the subject. This training gave me real insight into workplace culture, and how it influences employee wellbeing. As a result, I am now well-positioned to help clients to improve their organisation’s culture as well as to respond to problems which may arise."

“I’m looking forward to bringing this proactive support to Thackray Williams’ clients to help them build stronger, more resilient businesses based on stronger, more resilient teams.”
