Nuisance social housing tenants face sanctions

Social housing tenants suffering at the hands of nuisance neighbours can take some comfort from stern punishments meted out to two antisocial residents who brought misery to the housing estate where they lived.

The pair suffered from alcohol dependency and had been issued with antisocial behaviour injunctions following numerous complaints from their neighbours. They were, amongst other things, banned from using abusive language, causing noise nuisance or using or threatening violence against other residents.

However, both breached the injunctions soon afterwards. One of them threatened neighbours, banging on their door and uttering threats. The other carried out an assault and caused a loud banging noise in her home. As punishment for their disobedience of the court orders, a judge jailed one of them immediately for 14 days and the other received a suspended 28-day sentence.
