With over 20 years’ family law experience, Paul specialises in the financial aspects of complex divorce. This includes separation and pre/post-nuptials, divorce and judicial separation, injunctions to prevent dissipation of assets, cohabitation agreements and property disputes between cohabitating couples after separation. It also involves issues to do with children including residence, contact and specific parenting issues, as well as applications pertaining to overseas residency.
Paul qualified as a Solicitor in 1998 and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Matrimonial Practice in 2002. After joining Thackray Wood (which later became Thackray Williams), Paul subsequently went on to become an Equity Partner with Thackray Williams and Head of the Family Law Department. He qualified as an accredited mediator in 2012 and is also trained to help resolve disputes faced by separating couples including arrangements for any children.
Paul appreciates that family law is not a contest but a search for solutions. He values clients who know what they want and are able to give clear instructions. Striving to be as transparent with costs as possible, Paul regularly communicates with clients so they feel in control of the process and have confidence in his abilities.
An attentive listener with an empathetic approach, Paul is able to put clients at ease and quickly establish their trust. Clients describe him as calm, cathartic and professional.
Paul’s aim is to ensure he communicates effectively and compassionately with clients, making sure they are the forefront of everything he does. Matters of a family nature are rarely straightforward and it is important to both recognise and acknowledge this.
When not at work, Paul enjoys reading the newspaper, working out at the gym, swimming, running and listening to music.
