After completing her training as a Barrister, Alana worked for accountancy, Inheritance Tax Planning and solicitors’ firms. During this time, she mostly advised HNW and UHNW clients on tax and tax planning and then drafted the appropriate documents, for example, tax effective Wills and trusts. She joined Thackray Williams in 2018, in a department which she feels effectively utilises her skills and in which she enjoys working immensely.
With over 20 years’ experience in advising clients on wills, trusts and tax planning, Alana is also adept at drafting and interpreting the tax legislation in order to apply the law to a particular client’s circumstances. Being able to explain the complex tax rules to clients, drafting documents and then explaining the legalities to the clients, is critical, Alana feels, in helping them arrive at an effective solution.
Alana believes everyone should be made to feel as if their matter is the most important one. Such is Alana’s commitment, she will vigorously defend her clients with whatever it takes, drawing on her extensive legal knowledge, drafting ability and advocacy skills.
Clients are often curious to know and meet a Barrister and can feel intimidated. However, Alana finds having Thackray Williams as a support network means clients can get the best of both worlds.
Away from work, Alana was a Trustee/Director for Age Concern. She also sits as Chair on the Appeals panel for a local grammar school.
She spends her free time with my family, enjoys Fencing, playing cricket and also playing the piano.
