TW in the Community

The Partnership actively encourages staff to get involved in community groups.  Where staff have formed personal relationships with charitable organisations or community groups, these are shown on their profiles. We have recently formed a working party to give more focus to our charitable interests and concerns.

St Cecilia's care home

St Cecilia's care home is a Leonard Cheshire Disbaility home providing residential care for young adults with a range of physical disabilities.  Martin Poupard (a solicitor in our Family Department) is an established volunteer at the Sundridge Avenue care home and suggested that we make St Cecilias our Charity of the Year for 2010/11.  As well as providing some financial support, a range of projects have been taking place including social events and a hands-on gardening project (volunteers pictured).

Bromley Community Fund

The Bromley Community Fund is an exciting new charitable venture set up to support the borough now and long into the future - responding over time to the changing needs and harships faced by local people.  Donations given to the Bromley Community Fund are invested as an endowed fund with the interest used to make charitable grants year on year.  The capital sum is never touched, continues to grow and provides a lasting source of support for charities and community organisations over the years to come.   In a groundbreaking initiative to support the creation of local endowments, the Government is providing donors with £50 million of matched funding across England.

Thackray Williams are a major sponsor and are pledged to continue support  to the fund in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Bromley Mind

Bromley Mind is a local registered charity working to make a positive impact on the lives of people with mental health needs.  More than 1,700 people a year receive help from their mental health services, coping with life courses and Mindcare dementia services.

Our Partner Linda Gabriel is Vice-Chair of their Board of Trustees, and they were our Charity of the Year for 2008/2009. Various joint initiatives have been arranged including:

  •  Our suite of meeting rooms has been made available to Bromley Mind for occasions when their own accommodation might be too small.

  • We are offering their services to our business clients in the form of seminars for employees to recognise signs of stress in their staff.

Bromley Education Business Partnership

Bromley Education Business Partnership logo

Bromley EBP provides a wide range of activities to help schools and colleges deliver and enrich work related learning across the curriculum. This is achieved by recruiting business representatives to work in schools on a range of specific learning projects from providing professional development placements to setting industry challenges or working with teachers on specific projects: www.bromleyebp.org.uk.

Solicitors Anthony Macey, Jill MacMahon and Vikki Herbert have committed to taking an active part in ‘Dragon’s Pen’ activities in local secondary schools. This involves facilitating a business day with the Year 10 students in the style of the popular TV programme ‘Dragon’s Den’. The idea is to help the students to apply their learning to the commercial world.

Community House

We are sponsors of their Charity Christmas Card shop for 2010, the fourth year in succession. The shop is open from 18 October to 17 December from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.  The initiative supports over 20 local charities. Our sponsorship allows 100% of the proceeds of the sale of the cards to go to the individual charities.
