Jill is a Private Client Solicitor and Director of Knowledge Management. After practising at Thackray Williams for over a dozen years in the fields of Wills, Trust Drafting, Tax Planning, Older Client Law and Court of Protection including Lasting Powers of Attorney, she has now stepped away from taking on new client work and concentrates on looking after the knowledge base of her Department and mentoring younger colleagues.
With excellent technical experience and broad legal knowledge, Jill brings these strengths to her role, particularly when drafting documents and advising on ways of dealing with new developments in the law, along with a keen eye for detail and an ability to see the larger picture. She will always push hard to achieve novel solutions for difficult problems.
After graduating in Law from the University of Cambridge, Jill completed her Solicitors’ Final Examination course at Guildford College of Law before spending two years at a London firm to complete her training. With an interest in international commercial law, she joined the firm’s Company Commercial department and two years later, moved to the Head Office Legal department of the chemicals giant, ICI. After five years travelling the world and advising on international matters for many of ICI’s businesses, Jill moved to a large commercial firm in London before taking a career break to start a family. After a time lecturing and providing legal advice on a pro bono basis, she returned to formal legal practice in 2003, specialising in Private Client Law with Thackray Wood. Jill continued to practise in this field until early 2017 when (in preparation for eventual retirement) she switched her focus to the technical legal side of her Department.
Jill is Chairman of the Bromley High Swimming Club and a Trustee of CASPA, the local charity that provides clubs, activities and support for children on the autistic spectrum and their parents. When not at work, she likes spending time with her family and friends. A keen modern linguist, she enjoys travel, concert-going, Pilates, swimming and is now learning to sail.
