TW in the Community

The Partnership actively encourages staff to get involved in community groups. Where staff have formed personal relationships with charitable organisations or community groups, these are shown on their profiles. We have recently formed a working party to give more focus to our charitable interests and concerns.

maypole project

The Maypole Project is a charity that provides emotional support to children with complex medical needs, and their families. They are a small organisation, currently supporting around 150 families across Bromley and South East London, but as the charity grows more and more families are accessing their support. As a result, developing their support team is an immediate and on-going concern.
As our charity of the year, we have been actively supporting the project in a number of creative ways. These include employees running a 10k race, staff volunteering in the Maypole shop, providing a Father Christmas for their Christmas Activity Day and assisting in fund raising and Face Painting at various events. We also provide speakers for their parent evenings when requested.

The Maypole Project was our charity of the year in 2011 www.themaypoleproject.co.uk

Thackray Williams Runners

Our team of runners ran a 10k race this year and raised £1,121 for the Maypole Project, our charity of the year.

Phil Price, the Active Challenges Officer at the charity said it had been an absolute pleasure working with the running team and that "the money will certainly be very useful to the charity - it could be used to support one of our families for a year."

As well as providing some financial support, a range of projects have been taking place including social events and a hands-on gardening project (volunteers pictured below):

Bromley Community Fund

Bromley Community Fund logo

The Bromley Community Fund is an exciting new charitable venture set up to support the borough now and long into the future - responding over time to the changing needs and harships faced by local people. Donations given to the Bromley Community Fund are invested as an endowed fund with the interest used to make charitable grants year on year. The capital sum is never touched, continues to grow and provides a lasting source of support for charities and community organisations over the years to come. In a groundbreaking initiative to support the creation of local endowments, the Government is providing donors with £50 million of matched funding across England.

Thackray Williams are a major sponsor and are pledged to continue support  to the fund in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

This winter, the fund is running a fundraising appeal called 'Surviving Winter', asking older people who do not need their winter fuel payments to donate all or part of them to more vunerable older people in the borough.
They are currently selecting partner charities or community groups to benefit from the money they raise. Applications are open to community and voluntary groups, registered charities, companies limited by guarantee, social enterprises or Community Interest Companies with an annual income of less than £200,000. Priority will be given to organisations who can demonstrate that they are working with the most vunerable and 'hardest to reach' older residents in Bromley.

To apply, visit www.capitalcl.org and fill in the application forms for the 'Bromley Community Fund - Surviving Winter Campaign', by no later than the 29th of August.

surviving winter

Living in a warm home is something that is often taken for granted.  However, as winter approaches many people will be dreading the prospect of cold conditions and high energy bills. Already, more than 25,000 people in the UK die from the cold each winter, and many more become ill, slip into debt or retreat from social activities and community contact.

The campaign launches on November 10th, with confirmed support from Sir Terry Wogan and Saga Magazine. The campaign aims to raise a total of £1million across the UK, with 46 charities running the campaign to support their local region. In Bromley, we hope to raise £20,000 to help older residents in need in the borough. Please think about donating your winter fuel payment to this worthy cause. Bromley Education Business Partnership

Bromley Education Business Partnership logo

Bromley EBP provides a wide range of activities to help schools and colleges deliver and enrich work related learning across the curriculum. This is achieved by recruiting business representatives to work in schools on a range of specific learning projects from providing professional development placements to setting industry challenges or working with teachers on specific projects: www.bromleyebp.org.uk.

Solicitors Jill MacMahon, Debbie Korb, Elizabeth Ashun, Sarah Sarwar and Chris Macartney have committed to taking an active part in ‘Dragon’s Pen’ activities in local secondary schools. This involves facilitating a business day with the Year 10 students in the style of the popular TV programme ‘Dragon’s Den’. The idea is to help the students to apply their learning to the commercial world.

Community House

Chistmas Card

Community House is a Bromley Voluntary Sector Trust (situated in south Street opposite Bromley fire station). Our Partner Amanda Wood is a Trustee.

We were sponsors of their Charity Christmas Card shop in 2011, the fifth year in succession.  The initiative supported over 25 local charities and the sponsorship allowed 100% of the proceeds of the sale of the cards to go to the individual charities.
