NHS Trust to pay for age discrimination
23 - 4 - 2009The Daily Mail has reported that a 56-year-old employee who was discriminated against on the grounds of her age has been awarded compensation of £29,500 for injury to feelings and £5,000 aggravated damages following an eight-day hearing in the Leeds Employment Tribunal. With interest her award totalled £50,400. Linda Sturdy was rejected for a new job in favour of a 43-year-old colleague with less experience. The Employment Judge said that the injury to feelings was 'about as serious as it gets' and the Daily Mail goes onto state that the payout is the highest award ever made for injury to feelings for any act of discrimination in the UK.
