OUR CHARGES
We like to make our charges clear and understood.
Wherever possible we offer a fixed fee. However, some types of work are unsuitable for fixed fees and where this is the case we will explain why and offer one of the following:
• Capped fee
• Conditional fee
• Hourly rate
The usual charges for our various services are outlined below:
Personal work
Residential Conveyancing
We have a team of experienced property lawyers who provide a tailored service (as all property transactions are different). We are happy to provide without obligation written fixed fee quotes in response to telephone and email requests. Our telephone helpline for quotes is 0208 461 6140.
Wills
We provide a bespoke service to ensure that you have a Will that reflects both your financial and family circumstances. In advance of our first meeting we send you our scale of charges and after discussing your requirements confirm the costs for the work to be undertaken in advance of any drafts being prepared so that you know from the outset what the total will be. Our charge for a basic Will is £145 + VAT.
Probate
In most instances we are able to work to a fixed fee to give complete certainty in relation to our charges. We offer a complete service and can either undertake all aspects of the administration of an estate or a more tailored service to deal with certain elements only. This ensures that we provide you with as much support as you require, whilst providing flexibility as well as transparency in our charges. On the rare occasions when a fixed fee is unsuitable, we will advise you of this from the outset.
Lasting Powers of Attorney
We offer fixed fees for the preparation of Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA). Our fee for one LPA is £395 + VAT. If you wish to prepare both types of LPA (Health and Property & Affairs) or if you wish to prepare LPAs with your spouse/partner, each additional LPA is charged at £200 + VAT.
Divorce and associated work
For family law including divorce, separation and disputes between cohabitants (both financial and in relation to children) we usually charge on an hourly basis. We offer fixed fee initial consultations starting at £150 + VAT. We can also assess eligibility for legal aid where appropriate.
In cases where a lump sum is likely to be recovered we can agree to postpone payment of our costs until the lump sum is received.
Consumer disputes
We offer an initial fixed fee meeting of £150 + VAT. Any further ongoing charges would be discussed at the initial consultation. For this type of work, charges are normally made by hourly rate.
Personal Injury
There are various means of funding a personal injury claim including “no win, no fee” or alternatively Legal Expenses Insurance. This can be provided either through a motor insurance policy or a home contents policy - alternatively as “after the event Insurance”. If you win the case, your solicitor's fees will usually be paid by the other side. If you lose, you do not have to pay any fee to us but you may be asked to take out an insurance policy to pay for the other side's costs.
Employment advice
We offer an initial fixed fee interview at a time to suit you for £150 + VAT. We will then provide you with an estimate of the costs involved in any further work. For certain types of work we may be able to offer a fixed fee. We will discuss this with you at the initial interview.
Business work
Company/partnership work/Commercial conveyancing
We are conscious that whether you are purchasing legal services on behalf of your business or as an individual, you will appreciate the certainty of knowing what the work will cost at the outset. We commit ourselves to working towards specific outcomes/objectives which require us to fully understand all the elements of your transaction. In this way we can agree a fee structure to reflect the value we can offer you and to give you the certainty you need. This way you can be confident that your goals will be achieved within your budget.
Debt recovery
Apart from the initial registration fee, our fees are geared to being chargeable only on collection of the debt. Because of this policy, we have every incentive to secure the debt. All court fees and fixed costs are recoverable from the debtor on successful conclusion of the action.
The initial registration fee is £40 for debts under £1,000 and £50 for debts over £1,000.
Employment Law advice for business
We offer an employment law helpline at a fixed cost to deal with your day-to-day employment law issues.
In conjunction with the helpline we can offer an insurance policy specifically designed to give peace of mind to employers. This covers you both for the costs of defending any Employment Tribunal claims together with any awards of compensation or settlements up to an agreed limit. It offers financial certainty because you set your own budget and have the opportunity to spread the cost by monthly instalments. Advice is given by a solicitor in our employment law team. Your management time can then be directed to your core business activity rather than dealing with time consuming employment disputes.
Alternatively we can offer you an estimate of the likely costs for dealing with a specific matter or for certain types of work at a fixed fee.
